Entry 02 · Berths
Four berths across the tower, the loft and the shore. Each is entered as a logbook entry: room, aspect, weather, small comforts. Rates arrive as seasonal packages, sent by return.
Berth 01 · Tower head · West aspect
The former principal keeper's quarters at the head of the tower stair, with a bay window facing due west over the fjord mouth. A cast-iron stove, a slate reading desk, and a bed built into the panelled alcove.

Berth 02 · Attic · North aspect
A long attic room under the original roof timbers, reached by its own outside stair. Two north-facing dormers frame the ridgeline of the far shore; wool throws, waxed floorboards, a deep soaking tub set into the eaves.

Berth 03 · Shore · East aspect
A standalone timber cabin on the granite shelf below the station, six paces from the sauna raft's gangway. Wood-fired stove, twin daybeds facing the water, a small covered porch for the coffee ritual at first light.

Entry 03 · Sauna & Sea
The sauna raft is tethered off the granite shelf, a short gangway from the shore. It is heated from four each afternoon and stays warm until the last of the summer light. A cold-plunge ladder drops from the raft's north side into deep, still water.
Treatments are unhurried and few: a birch-brush scrub, a slow head-and-shoulder loosening after a day on the fells, a warm-stone rest for the small of the back. The treatment room sits under the eaves of the boathouse, north-lit, quiet.
Entry 03b · The House
Beyond the sauna raft and the treatment room, the station grounds offer a quiet circuit of the granite shelf, the boathouse jetty, and the kitchen garden. Guests are welcome to use the rowing boat at any hour of daylight; the keeper will point out the best of the shore walk at check-in.
The grounds are kept in the same register as the rooms: unhurried, uncluttered, and open to the weather. A covered bench on the north side of the station faces the ridgeline of the far shore and is the preferred spot for the morning cup.
Entry 04 · The Casino
The Kvaløya Veranda is a glazed room built onto the south face of the station. A small salon of four tables under the long summer light, kept in the same register as the sauna: an amenity of the house, factually named and quietly run.

Entry 05 · Kitchen
Breakfast is laid at the long timber table from seven: soft-boiled eggs from the farm at Mundal, cured mackerel from the smokehouse, brown cheese, warm bread, curd and cloudberry. The kitchen keeps to what the fjord and the valley send in, nothing further than the day's boat and the morning's post.
The slow-coffee counter is set by the west window. We pour by single farm, this month the beans from Bjørnestad and from the small holding at Kviteseid, through a paper filter, one cup at a time. The waffle hour begins at four each afternoon: hearts of iron, thick sour cream, brown cheese, cloudberry preserve.
An evening kitchen of two or three courses is set by arrangement for house guests, at the long table or on the porch when the weather holds. The smokehouse tasting of the fjord catch runs on Thursdays through the summer.
Entry 06 · Programme
A short programme kept in the station's own rhythm, the smokehouse, the meltwater walk, the long-light reading. Places are limited to house guests and their invited company.

Mackerel, trout and coalfish, hot-smoked on the granite shelf, served with dill-cured potatoes and rye. Four courses at the long table, seating for fourteen.

A guided walk to the meltwater outflow below the glacier arm, with the ranger from Norsk Bremuseum. Return for the four o'clock waffle. Boots and a rain shell expected.
Fri 04 September 2026 · 20:00
An evening of short readings on Nordic light and weather, by the writer in residence for the season. In the dining room, followed by cloudberry pudding and tea.
